Jukebox Durie is our weekly review of the best (and the worst) Scottish football songs.

Another week, another John Barnes dig…
If you go on a bus tour of Liverpool you will visit the city’s modernist Catholic cathedral. A tee-pee shaped building that also does a very good impression of Dumbledore’s hat.

And if you listen to the recorded bus tour, just after you are informed that the four bells on the Cathedral are named as John, Paul, George and Ringo, the tour guide will tell that that the Cathedral is known locally as “Paddy’s Wigwam.”

But if you think that reference racist, you can rest assured, it is not. If it were racist would Liverpool FC use it in the lyrics of the Anfield Rap when they sing?

“Don’t forget us Paddies
And me the Great Dane
And I’m from London mate so watch your game”

But that’s not their only crime against race. Quite clearly they have never met an Irishman. As they later sing:

“We’re Ireland lads
Och-aye the noo”

Och-aye the noo?!?!?!? The only “Irishman” to say och-aye the noo was Sean “I don’t do accents” Connery in mawkish leprechaun fantasy Darby O’Gill & The Little People.

Coincidentally, Luis Suarez’s favourite film.

For this and more offensive stereotyping here is the Anfield Rap with John Barnes.

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
