On Wednesday lunchtime, myself, Richard Hunter (@tricky308), John Gavin (@johngavincomedy), & Pearse James (@pearsejames) headed along to Firhill Stadium in Maryhill, Glasgow, the home of Partick Thistle FC. For the benefit of any confused non-Scottish readers, Partick Thistle haven’t actually played in Partick since 1908. They were the Tottenham Hotspur of their day…if Spurs had actually managed to get the Olympic Stadium.

The Jags are notable for a few things. For being one of the friendliest and most approachable clubs in Scotland (otherwise how would we have made it into the boardroom?), for a 4-1 League Cup Final win over Celtic in 1971 that confused ITV newsreaders into reading out the scoreline in reverse, and for probably having the most nicknames of any club in Scotland. Thistle will answer to The Jags, The Harry Wraggs, and The Maryhill Magyars.

We tend to answer to “Who are these c*nts?”

Below are some pics from our day out at Thistle:

Pearse and Richard play it cool in reception.

Pearse, Richard, and John trying to look innocent in front of the trophy cabinet. Minutes later, the staff in the local Cash Generator would be gazing suspiciously at an 'Aberdeen International Five-a-side Tournament' trophy before offering £15 in cash or £20 part-exchange.

Ghosts of Alan Hansen, Alan Rough, and Mo Johnston not spotted. Possibly because none of them are actually dead.

Apparently these signs are present in every dressing room in the SFL and SPL. Leading to the conclusion that Ian Black's not much of a reader.

The pitch at Firhill. Hosting Friday night rugby matches for Glasgow Warriors helps the club coffers. Probably doesn't do so much for the stress levels of the groundsman...

How the f*** has he missed from there?!

Incidents all over the pitch!

Thanks to all at Partick Thistle for making us so welcome and particularly to the club’s Head of Marketing, Ami Small, for all her assistance in setting things up.

About the Author

Twice runner-up in Scottish Comedian of the Year finals, Teddy was named ‘Best Up and Coming Comedian’ at the Scottish Variety Awards in 2010. He’s written for two BBC Radio 5 ‘Unsporting Reviews of the Year’, and has also worked as both writer and script editor on the BBC1 Scotland football shows ‘Offside’ & ‘Only An Excuse?’. He’s been a Rangers season-ticket holder for the past 17 years, but he’s all about the football not “all that other shite”. Also has a fondness for Dynamo Kyiv that can be traced back to an unhealthy obsession with Alexei Mikhailitchenko (or Oleksiy Mykhalychenko if you prefer to transliterate from the Ukrainian rather than the Russian. That’s the unhealthy obsession we’re talking about.)

“brilliant Scottish comic” Kate Copstick, Scotland on Sunday

“Head, shoulders, knees and toes above the rest…mighty stage presence and impressively high punchline ratio” Brian Donaldson, Scotsman

“freshly minted topical gags…pin-sharp lines…great routine…a class act” Steve Bennett, Chortle.co.uk

“has flourished…cracking lines” Jay Richardson, Scotsman

“there are few of his Scottish-based contemporaries that can spin the same high standard of punchlines” Brian Donaldson, Scotland on Sunday
