Jukebox Durie is our weekly review of the best (and the worst) Scottish football songs. Before each half, the PA system at Swindon Town blasts out an operatic aria to make Italian manager Paolo Di Canio feel like home. Is this also why the PA at Old Trafford plays Girls, Girls, Girls whenever Ryan Giggs warms up?

It’s funny, I would have thought that controversial right winger Di Canio would have preferred a bit of Richard Wagner, a favourite of Fascists, but life is never predictable when it comes to Paolo.

In [1996] he joined Celtic and for one season he entertained us all with his foot stamping, arm gesticulating, football trickery. He quickly became a fan favourite and in return the fans recorded a special version of the 70’s classic D.I.S.C.O. just for him. It was called D.I.Canio.

Rumours are Di Canio loved the song so much that even invented dance moves to go with it: it goes right foot, left foot, right foot, left foot, then goose-step, goose-step, goose-step!

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
