So, when Jukebox Durie left Scottish football a month ago, Celtic were on course for the Quadruple – League, League Cup, Scottish Cup and, of course, the Champions League trophy. Nothing could stop them, and especially not St Mirren. A team so poor even George Osborne gives them a handout. Yet, what a month it’s been for St Mirren. They beat Celtic in the league cup semi-final and have won (at time of writing) their last three games in a row, including beating second place St Johnstone. Move over Lennon, there’s a new Lennon in new town, and his name’s Danny The Champion Of The World.

Perhaps the good times are returning to Paisley? If so, let’s not hope we don’t jinx them by resurrecting this classic song from 1987. A year that St Mirren fans remember for only one thing – winning the Scottish Cup Final 1-0.

The 1987 Scottish Cup Final was played between St Mirren and Dundee United and featured many of Scottish football’s biggest names. Malpas. Money. McGarvey. And a 17-year-old Paul Lambert in the St Mirren midfield.

What was notable about the game, except if you are a St Mirren fan for whom winning is everything, is that this match has now become the answer to a popular piece of Scottish football trivia.

Q. When was the last time a Scottish Cup was won by a team fully composed of Scottish players?

A. 1987. Every St Mirren player was Scottish.

And, if you really like your trivia, you can take it further. Not only was it the last time a winning team was composed of Scottish players it was the last time all players competing and both managers were Scottish. Jukebox Durie is willing to bet that we will never see this again.

After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
