On the 22nd of September, 1964, Kilmarnock FC beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1 in their first ever European tie at Rugby Park.”

And so begins one of the most interesting blog posts I’ve read. A big thank you goes to out to Ian Goudie who got in touch after the recent Juventus posts to point us in the direction of another mighty European night, when Kilmarnock made their European debut against Eintracht Frankfurt.

But did you know:
Kilmarnock originally played cricket;
Kilmarnock then played a sort of rugby/football crossover (which led to the name Rugby Park) before settling on football?
No?

Then go visit the blog:

And for this week’s tune, we have an unlikely celebrity fan spot. Did you know that Marie Osmond, as of Donnie and Marie fame, is a Killie fan? It may seem a surprise that this Las Vegas-playing rooting-tooting American music legend is spotted in Ayrshire but, as a mother of eight, she’s no different from many of Killie’s female fans. Except with a few less kids.

However, the connection is closer than you may think. For many years, Killie fans have been singing Marie Osmond’s ‘Paper Roses’ and it has been adopted as the club’s anthem. So you can imagine how delighted they were when she visited Rugby Park in January before a show at the SECC later that day. But that wasn’t the only surprise – according to reports she is alleged to have said: “Garry Hay has a special place in my heart, he is just too cute”?!?!?

Sometime words fail me. They certainly failed Gary.

After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
