A couple of years ago, my girlfriend and I went to Rome. A city of ancient wonders where it’s impossible to walk more than 10 feet without stubbing your toe on some relic of Julius Caesar’s patio, Augustine’s pool house or Nero’s sex dungeon/wine cellar.

As we walked round the city and through the packed crowds of tourists, we devised a wee game to pass the time. We called it ‘Nun’.

The rules of ‘Nun’ were simple, when you saw a ‘Nun’ you had to shout ‘Nun’ and the winner was the one who spotted the most nuns by the end of the trip.

As a secondary rule, once a nun was spotted, she couldn’t be spotted again, which created many arguments, as there was no time limit for when you first saw the nun. Have you ever had a stand up row with your girlfriend in the middle of St Peter’s Square about whether the nun with the blue habit and crooked nose was the same nun with a crooked nose but with a white habit spotted two days before? No? Well, I have…

To try and stop arguments we thought of tagging the nuns with spray-paint, but we didn’t know what the Italian was for “where is the nearest B&Q?” An opportunity to advance the game missed, sadly.

I mention the nun game not only because you may want to play along at home next time you are near a convent, but, also, because when you watch the next video you’ll be shouting “Nun! Nun! Nun! Nun!”

This is the official Polish Euro 2012 song: ’Koko Euro Spoko’ by a group called Jarzebina. And Jarzebina, as will soon become clear are a group of old Polish ladies dressed as nuns.

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
