Jukebox Durie is our weekly review of the best (and the worst) Scottish football songs.

Every time Rangers owner Craig Whyte’s questioned about the financial black hole his team found themselves in, he’s made a point of criticising the old board by asking what they did to save the club in its hour of need. I think you’ll find Craig, they tried to stop your takeover. What have you done?

This week, as Rangers fall into administration, as Ibrox staff fear for their jobs, as those who can’t play football (Matt McKay and Mervan Celik I am looking at you) find they could face the dole. it is poignant that we should feature one of Ranger’s newest anthems: Penny Arcade by Sammy King, a song frequently played over the tannoy pre-match and occassionally at half-time.

The lyrics are fitting:

“And music played at the Penny Arcade

Well it played, and it played, played all the time

Roll up and spend your last, roll up and spend your last

Roll up and spend your last dime.”

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
