Jukebox Durie is our weekly review of the best (and the worst) Scottish football songs.

Two of my all time favourite football moments involve Motherwell manager Stuart McCall. The first is his infamous appearance for Rangers against Borrussia Dortmund in the early nineties. It was the middle of winter in the middle of Europe and so cold that Batman villain Mr Freeze was renamed Mr Toasty.

The Dortmund players came out of the players tunnel in gear Scott of the Antarctic would have died for (or not died for, if he’d only worn them when he popped out that night).

Next came the Rangers players, and their leader, Stuart McCall. Not for Stuart the bearskins, seal socks and penguin boots of the timid Germans, Stuart had the smallest pair of skimpy shorts topped with a short sleeved T-shirt that could have passed for a long sleeve top if you didn’t spot that it was in fact his bare arms that had turned blue.

Stuart McCall showed those wimpy Germans what it means to be Scottish.

My second favourite football moment is a video of Stuart McCall celebrating Bradford’s promotion to the Premier League. Stuart’s been celebrating for some time and is dancing on top of a car while drinking from a can of lager. Before you can say “You’re going to have an accident” Stuart does indeed have an accident. He falls off. But when he falls he still keeps his can of lager upright so he doesn’t to spill a drop. Stuart McCall is a true Scotsman!

Even though he was born in Leeds.

Currently, Stuart is manager of Mortherwell and chasing hard to overtake Rangers in the race for second place in the SPL. This week’s Jukebox Durie is for Motherwell fans. It’s former Celtic, Dunfermline and Motherwell player Jim O’Brien singing ‘Face For The Radio’ – a song clearly written about Stuart McCall.

Next week: More from Jim O’Brien (including the wiggle dance!)

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
