Jukebox Durie is our weekly review of the best (and the worst) Scottish football songs.

Everyone knows The Sun headline “Super Caley Go Ballistic Celtic Are Atrocious”, but few know that then Celtic manager John Barnes started his managerial career with a 5-0 victory over Aberdeen in a style that was reminiscent of the 1970 Brazil World Cup team. How times changed.

Even less know that John Barnes managerial career didn’t end that night in Celtic Park but, following a stint on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007, John somehow resurrected his career when he was appointed to manage Jamaica and then Tranmere. But both Jamaica and Tranmere must now wish that they had appointed Anton du Bec instead. After wining only 2 leagues matches out of 11 John Barnes’s fate was sealed after losing… 5 – 0.

History likes repeating as much as it likes irony.

For many John Barnes is best remembered today, not for his illustrious Liverpool career, but for his rapping ability. A one hit wonder – even though he sang more songs (see next week for the gory details) – but what a hit he had! This week’s Jukebox Durie is New Order’s World In Motion.

(Many people consider World In Motion to be the best football song of all time, those people have not heard High Tension At Boghead)

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
