Jukebox Durie is our weekly review of the best (and the worst) Scottish football songs.

This week…

Let’s be honest, there are some football songs that have little appeal beyond the fans of the team involved. Can you imagine anyone other than a hardcore member of the Tartan Army listening to Ally’s Tartan Army while on the bus on the way to work? Would you ever ask a DJ if he can put on Vindaloo by Fat Les as a special request? Not likely.

But there are some songs that transcend their origins and become bona fide classics – this is one of them. A celebration and condemnation of Scottish football in 5 minutes of bass heavy dub by Primal Scream, Adrian Sherwood and Irvine Welsh for a single for the European Championships 1996. This is The Big Man And The Scream Team Meet The Barmy Army Uptown.

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
