Hibs-Header

We’ve invited fans of the 42 SPFL clubs (well, some of them at least) to give us a preview of their team’s upcoming season. Let’s find out what Callum Laidlaw thinks is in store for Hibs…

Last Season’s Position – 2nd

This Season’s Prediction – 1st

Best Signing of the Summer So Far – Liam Fontaine

Not a new signing but getting “Fonts” tied up was more important than any new player coming in. A rock last season, never loses a header, and is have been quite happy if he had been made captain.

Key Player – Scott Allan

Has to be Scott Allan (if he’s still with us come the 1st September). An absolute talisman last season with nearly 20 assists and if he can add a few more goals to his game then he’ll be able to pick his club next summer. It took him a few months to get up to speed last season so a fully fit Allan could really be the difference between 1st & 2nd place.

The Manager – Alan Stubbs

He’s done well so far. Has a seasons experience under his belt now. Made a few mistakes as would be expected but hopefully he’s learned from them and can get the team to be ruthless. He quite clearly has built an excellent Back room staff and the players have huge respect for him. But 2 seasons without promotion could start to Damage his reputation so he’ll be as desperate as us fans to get up.

Expectations

It was hard not to be disappointed at the end of last season. So close to a cup final, and couldn’t finish the job of in the playoffs against Rangers, but overall it  was a decent season. We were a mess in July and I feared for us after the first 6 league games so the turnaround after that as superb and it was actually enjoyable to watch the Hibees again. This season will again be tough. Rangers will not be as bad as they were, but at the same time, the signing of Wilson and interest in Holt shows that they’re at a very similar level to us and now and with us being more organised this summer, I feel that could be enough to help us get them automatic promotion. We need to be more ruthless this season tho and hopefully Keatings and a fully fit El Alagui will deal with that. It won’t be the 4 games against Rangers that will decide the league tho, it will be how we perform against the Alloa’s, Mortons & Dumbartons.
