Our countdown of the Top 5 Jukebox Durie songs of 2012 continues with number 3 and number 2. But who has clinched the number 1 spot? Our lips are sealed but we can promise that Simon Cowell has nothing to do with it and next year’s winner is the anti-X Factor.

This week’s number 3 is…

Koko Euro Spoko

Euro 2012 was not a vintage championship but it had some good games, some magic moments and one classic quote from Pirlo after beating Germany in the semi-finals: “We haven’t done anything yet. There’s no use going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. We want to go home with this cup.”

What we said at the time: “This is the official Polish Euro 2012 song: ’Koko Euro Spoko’ by a group called Jarzebina. And Jarzebina, as will soon become clear are a group of old Polish ladies dressed as nuns.”

While at number 2 we have:

Inverness by Sundog

One of the most heartwarming stories of Scottish football in 2012 has been the rise of the non Old Firm clubs. With teams like Hibs and Aberdeen providing a decent challenge in the SPL; with Ross County showing that promotion doesn’t mean relegation; and Partick Thistle and Dunfermline providing goals and thrills in Division 1, the possibility of a Top 14 or Top 16 doesn’t seem such a scary thought. That’s why for our runner-up we’ve chosen a song from the lower regions of Scottish football – the Juniors. This is ‘Inverness’ by Sun Dog, a band led by Auchinleck Talbot’s Bryan Slavin.

What we said at the time: “But for one man, the future is bright. Auchinleck Talbot skipper Bryan Slavin is a budding rock star. He’s the lead singer of Sun Dog, a Neil Young inspired rock band. And while Neil Young is prolific, having written thousands of songs in the last 34 years, even Neil Young has never written a song about… Inverness.”

About the Author
After too many years as season ticket holder at Parkhead, Andy Todd renounced the SPL three years ago to support Queens Park. One team is a rank bunch of amateurs who play in a state of the art stadium and the other is…(I think we can all see where this is going).

Andy has been performing comedy for 18 months but is currently ‘between gigs’ while he writes a book on Scottish property law to be published in Summer 2012. Its potential audience will be less than 300 but his mum will be very proud.
