We’ve invited fans of the 42 SPFL clubs (well, some of them at least) to give us a preview of their team’s upcoming season. Let’s find out what Sean McHugh thinks is in store for Hamilton Academical…
Last Season’s Position – 7th
This Season’s Prediction – 6th
Best Signing – Gramoz Kurtaj
The German has looked very impressive in pre-season games and has come highly recommended from various people at his previous club and judging by the short clips I’ve seen online, I believe he could be the next Tony Andreu.
Key Man – Ali Crawford
Crawford was our top scorer last season. He was so influential from midfield, getting forward to score goals and creating so many opportunities for others. He needs to improve on his set pieces, but with that settled he could well be the next one to elope to the promised land of the Barclays Premier League.
The Manager – Martin Canning
After a difficult start to life in the job he redeemed himself at the end of last season with some good solid performances. Canning finds himself caught in the ‘should I play or not’ quandry but the Jesus Garcia Tena & Lucas central defensive pairing has looked solid in pre-season so he could be more influential on the sidelines. A couple of good early season wins will only build his and the fans’ confidence.
Expectations
Last season we surprised so many with our eye catching style of play and our never say die performances that garnered so many good results. Since Alex Neil’s departure to Norwich we stumbled over the line when in January we looked like we could be heading for Europe. With a couple of early season wins against clubs whom I believe will end the season in the bottom half (Partick Thistle & Ross County specifically) will give Accies confidence, something which we thrive on.
The expectations of many are that we will struggle but I can see another successful season for the Accies and if we were to finish in the top six, it would be another fantastic season for the side with the smallest support in the top flight.
